Guidon Design was the Prime A/E firm for the vertical and horizontal expansion of a parking garage on the Salt Lake City VAMC Campus. The project brought the garage from 2 to 3 floors and from 326 to 640 parking spaces. Guidon Design provided the architecture, structural, and civil engineering for the expansion of this garage.
The project placed special emphasis on power supply needs. The existing hospital’s electrical panel could not support the garage expansion’s power demand. To solve this challenge, the design extended the power loop on campus and disconnected the garage from the hospital electrical panels. This solution freed up power for future hospital projects.
The roof was designed to accommodate future solar panels that will power the garage and reduce the energy load on other campus buildings. The innovative use of Corten steel for the exterior cladding made this facility aesthetically pleasing, low maintenance, and highly functional.
